Where to go next — the official site, the archives, and the craft of the copy

This site is an independent tribute and is not affiliated with the official operation of Casa Loma. Over the years of writing it, a short list of outside sources has earned its place here — a few official and archival references worth your time, and a couple of corners of the web that grew out of the castle's own story. This page collects them.

The Castle & Its Keepers

On Replicas & Reproductions

Long before the first camera rolled, Casa Loma was surrounded by the craft of the copy. When rooms were restored — or when the castle was dressed for one of the hundreds of productions it has hosted — conservators and prop makers filled the gaps with reproductions: furniture, fittings, even pocket-watch chains, chosen to sit beside the originals without shouting. The fairytale look that keeps drawing film sets to Davenport Hill still runs on that logic. Nothing on camera needs to be the real thing; it only needs to be close enough that the lens can't tell.

The same thinking now drives the replica luxury watch. When a production needs a close-up of a five-figure timepiece, the prop list calls for a copy rather than the original — and the watch trade has its own vocabulary for how good that copy is.

We keep one resource on file for anyone curious: a richard mille replica catalogue we've come across in that world, with photographs detailed enough to check the finishing on a case or dial before a prop is ever ordered.

Replica watches ship in tiers, and the mid-grade UMI line is the one most often quoted for screen work — the same "super clone" tier that prop departments ask for when the camera gets close. For comparison, we've noted the UMI replica selection here.

A note on these links: they are editorial, not advertisements. We don't receive payment from any site on this page, and each is included because it's useful to readers of this one.

Add Your Own Source

If you know another reference worth adding — a production anecdote, an archive, or a good replica source for a film-props question — send us a note through the feedback page and we'll consider it for the next revision.
